Full Version: Need 'the Pretender' Recapped In 8 Minutes
Tintinrulz
I don't know if any of you people are fans of the tv show, 'Lost', I sure am, but I was thinking that 'Lost' is the sort of show that has a series long story arc, and 'The Pretender' is very much like this in that respect.

I'm sure some of you have heard of the YouTube video - 'Lost in 8 minutes'. The idea of the video was to demonstrate the overall plot of the series, the most important discoveries (character-wise and plot-wise) in the series so far and how they connected (very valuable with such a complex series with so many characters).

Please watch this video - 'Lost: Season 3 in 8 minutes' to understand the idea I'm promoting.

I think 'The Pretender' would benefit greatly from something like this - similar format but Pretender related.

The video would include:
The overarching plot of the series
The most important discoveries (character-wise and plot-wise)
eg.
Jarod's story (and his pretends but only those that are central to the overarching plot)
Ms Parker's story
Sydney's story
Angelo's story
The history and conspiracies behind The Centre
Anything else that is vital to understanding the main points of the series or really interesting (not fluff)

It would be edited into a cohesive video (from all 4 seasons and the 2 tv movies - we may need more than 8 minutes). Most of this footage would concern The Centre and Jarod's background (because, let's face it, that is the most interesting and mysterious part of the show).

It could help bring in new fans and help old fans re-discover their fandom and help everyone understand why there needs to be a conclusion.

We could use it as a Pretender campaign! Have all the footage linked together and then in the last minute or so of the video, have some text with the most vital questions we want to know - eg. 'will Jarod ever see his family again?'

I think it would be very worthwhile, but a lot of work to do right.
Who would be able to create such a beautiful work?
Would anyone consider it, does anyone know someone who could do it?

Does anyone have the resources (I have the dvds but my computer is pretty dated and can't upload the videos.)

Requirements:

The person will need to have:
Good knowledge of the overall series and tv movies
An eye for detail - be an excellent observer
Spare time in which to create said video, and a willingness to help the community
Their own copy of the series and tv movies on dvd (or borrow them)
Good editing skills to create a cohesive video
Pride in their work.

Sorry, it's such a tall order and yes, just giving the idea out is a bit of a cop-out but I would do it if I had a more powerful computer.

I'd be interested to hear all your thoughts on my proposal.

Thank you.

Please send this message to all Pretender forums/fansites/fans that you know of to get people interested - we may even find someone to volunteer.

That's a good idea, Tintinrulz! I can't help unless the person needed some knowledgeable input concerning plot lines because I believe I'm the most computer-stupid person in the Western Hemisphere...possibly the world...maybe even the universe! blink.gif
Tintinrulz
Mattali, I'm sure your Pretender knowledge would come in handy.

It would help if lots of Pretender fans could each take some part of the project (but be qualified in at least 3 or more of the areas specified).

Have you got any ideas?

Off to bed now - goodnight!
Quibus
Well I didn't watch the linked video because I hope to watch Lost soon and I dont' want it ruined! But I know what you're talking about.

I'd love to help. I love film editing! Hope to edit professionally someday. So count me in! Though I do have the DVDs, I'm not sure I know how to get clips from them. I have an idea that I'll try when I have some free time (working a lot, so this project might take me a while). If it doesn't work, I may need some help with getting the clips.

I'd try the idea now, but I'm off to bed early tonight--I have my AP Lit. and Comp. test tomorrow, must be partially well-rested!
Tintinrulz
Awesome!

That would be much appreciated Quibus!

You will need a 'DVD Decrypter' (to get the video off the dvd)
Google it.

What software do you use to edit stuff?

Quibus
I have DVD Decrypter already, I've just had so many technical difficulties with videos in the past that I was thinking about all these extra unecessary things I'd have to do. I know I can get clips now. 'Cause DVD Decrypter puts the video in .vob format, and my software can handle that. I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum or something to that effect.

I'm again off, I might be able to start it this weekend, but next week is more probable.
Tintinrulz
That sounds great mate. I really appreciate your commitment.
I'm sure the video will be very cool (and useful).
mattali
I'll try to give input if needed or wanted (nothing technical, of course!). rolleyes.gif With the wedding coming up, my time will be limited though.
Quibus
Yeah, if you guys have any ideas for clips or anything... feel free to drop a suggestion! smile.gif
Tintinrulz
Sure thing Quibus.

The most logical approach is to take the most important discoveries, character moments and plot points from each episode (starting with Pilot) and narrowing them down to the bare essentials.
Then repeat for many, many more episodes.

Remember Lois's Daily Planet has good summaries of each episode.

Also, maybe there are some Pretender fans that have just tracked:

The overarching plot of the series
The most important discoveries (character-wise and plot-wise)
eg.
Jarod's story (and his pretends but only those that are central to the overarching plot - but also Ethan, Kyle, him mum, dad and sister)
Ms Parker's story - but also Catherine Parker, Mr Parker, Mr Raines, Mr Lyle
Sydney's story - including Jacob and their role in The Centre
Angelo/Timmy's story
The history and conspiracies behind The Centre
Anything else that is vital to understanding the main points of the series or really interesting (not fluff)

(all of which need to be included)

I'm not sure where you would find something like that but someone on the Net has to have done something along those lines before. Surely?

Mattali, I don't expect that, as long as the video is completed before we get our conclusion to The Pretender - plenty of time. biggrin.gif
Quibus
Thanks for the suggestions, now I know what I should consider. I think Monday is my best bet, with tomorrow being Mother's Day, and the fact that I was just up to my shoulders in ice cream for nearly eight hours. I'll try to think of clips to import and work from there, but I dunno if I'll actually be able to get anything other than that done. I'm just too busy these days! Haha.

I'm glad you don't, Tintinrulz! If you did, you'd be sadly disappointed! wink.gif
